Get to know the Club's Committee

Your Club is managed by a voluntary committee, democratically elected each year at the AGM.

In order to get to know your committee better, here is some information about all of them.

Committee Member - Paul Newsome

Paul's family ran the Standard dealership in Coventry from the 1920's so Paul has a life-long association with the Marque. He runs a 1926 Standard Model SLO4 Charlecote and a Triumph TR4.

Vice Chairman and Historian - Phil Homer

Phil, together with wife Lynda have been members for well over 30 years and live in St. Albans in Hertfordshire. They run a small fleet of Standards dating from a 1919 Model S to a 1956 Standard Super 10, though not all of them are on the road at any one time! Phil is also the clubs historian and is an author and photographer of Classic Car subjects.

Membership Secretary and Registrar - Conan Lewis

Conan is a Manager in the Telecom's industry and owns a 1924 Model V3 Kenilworth and a 1950's Standard 10

Club Secretary - Lynda Homer

Lynda is an Educational Consultant at the Science Learning Centre, east of England, where she is involved in the management of Continuous Professional Development of Science Teachers.

Lynda is determined that Classic Cars should not be a men-only pastime, she enjoys driving Standard Cars to rallies and events - and encourages other ladies to do likewise.

Magazine Editor - Steve O'Hara

Steve is one of the Club's Train enthusiasts and he used to live above Birmingham's New Street Station, so he could get a good view!  He took on editorship of the Club's magazine,  during 2007. Steve  drives a Vintage Standard Teignmouth and a 1950's Standard 10

Commercial Advertising - Steve Smeltzer

A new recruit to the Committee in 2010, Steve hails from near Bristol. Steve is responsible for obtaining commercial advertising for the magazine and shows.

Steve covers thousands of miles each year in his 1927 Standard V4 Tourer. In midwinter, January 2010  he drove to Paris  with no roof and no heater, though to look at him he appears completely normal!

Committee Member - Dennis Brown

Dennis hails from Raglan in South Wales. An enthusiastic rally organiser, he travels long distances in his 1929 Selby Tourer, or his  superb  1938 Flying 12 Saloon. As a demonstration in reliability, Dennis has driven that car, twice, to the Shetland Islands and back to South Wales

Chairman & Compliance Officer - Peter Lockley

Peter's first Standard was an 1950's 8 but he has also restored a very rare  Vanguard Estate.  Most recently he has restored a TR - based Swallow Doretti. Peter lives in Long Itchington in Warwickshire and is a retired Solicitor. His other consuming interest is Steam Railways, of which he has an encyclopedic knowledge.

Spares Sourcing Co-ordinator - Brian Parkes

Brian is a long-serving member of the club, and joined the committee in January 2006. He runs a Post-war Standard 14 and is a virtual  ever-present at Standard Rallies and Road runs. He has a life-time of experience in the Motor Repair Trade and delights in managing our growing Spares re-manufacturing operation. He also manages the Pre 48 Spares Warehouse

Publicity Officer - Darrell Cunningham

Darrell Cunningham is an active member and founder of the New Forest Group of the Standard Motor Club. He owns a prewar Flying 8 Tourer.

His main role as Publicity Officer is to promote the Club and the marque as a whole to the Classic Car Press. He also provides a focal point for the committee as liaison point with our local area groups.

We also have a number of Officers who do not have Committee Posts, but provide essential services to our Members:

Vanguard Spares Officer - Peter Foster

A new recruit in 2009, Peter manages the Club's Vanguard Spares Warehouse. If he is not able to satisfy a Spares requirement , he also has a vast repertoire of sources that he is able to recommend to members.

Peter runs a Vanguard Vignale Saloon and an Ensign Estate and lives in Spalding, Lincolnshire

8 and 10 Spares Officer & Pre -1948 Spares Officer

This role is now shared between a number of volunteers

Regalia Officer, Webmaster & WebShop Manager  - Richard Hyde

Richard is a new recruit to the Committee in 2013, and runs the Regalia section, WebShop and website.

Richard hails from Bedfordshire and owns a 1947 flying 4/8A Saloon that he inherited from his father, in fact he has known the car all his life as he was 5 months old when his father purchased it and has recently purchased a 1935 Standard 12 delux which is a project car

All of the people on this page give generously of their time to make the Club successful. If you have skills and time to offer to help we are always searching for new volunteers.  Please enquire of any committee member in the first instance
