SHEPTON MALLET REPORT

On Friday the 2nd of October this year I found myself heading sixty miles to The Footman James Restoration Show at The Bath & west Showground, Shepton Mallet by invitation of the organisers to appear on the Footman James stand.

Earlier in the week with Alan Tibot and Josephine Longland the 1961 Vanguard luxury 6 automatic nicknamed Vincent underwent a complete valeting service including paint work chrome and carpets.

After a pleasant dry sunny run I found myself being positioned on the stand. I had not arranged to stay overnight so braved the two train journey home at rush hour sandwiched in with hundreds of commuters.

Early Saturday Alan and Dave Salter collected me and drove to the showground for Day 1. Alan wanted to polish the paint work again to give it a showroom look. I had arranged a car pass and wrist bands for them.

Over the two days over 32 members and friends popped in to see Vincent. I handed out several membership forms.

Saturday night the staff dropped me of at The Highwayman Public House locally where I enjoyed a great evening meal and a comfortable bed.

Sunday morning I was collected early and taken again to the show.

Although cold outside the Showerings Hall was reasonably warm.

As the show ended I made my way home in the dark but with excellent lighting in rain showers.

Although very tired I had enjoyed the experience and would like to thank Footman James, The organisers  Mortons and the Staff of the Highwayman Public House.

I am looking forward to 2019 especially The Standard International Rally in June. It is thought that Vincent is the only surviving Luxury 6 Automatic.
